Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), situated in Washington DC. The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a part of a panel discussion at the the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the budget and tax reform in addition to the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively with President Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
